Pražské jaro – Prague, Czech Republic

History & Description:
Established in 1946 under the direction of conductor Rafael Kubelík, the festival marked the post-war cultural rebirth of Czechoslovakia. Its traditional opening date is May 12, the anniversary of Bedřich Smetana’s death, and every year begins with his iconic symphonic cycle Má vlast (My Homeland). It has since become a symbol of Central European musical excellence and openness.

Features / Program:
Taking place from mid-May to early June, the festival features three weeks of symphonic and chamber concerts, opera, choral works, jazz, and contemporary music. Top Czech and international ensembles perform. The Prague Spring International Music Competition is a highlight for emerging artists.
